Thanks for not digging - Award-winning DHI Sweden

30 Jun 2011

Each year, SSTT – the Scandinavian Society for Trenchless Technology – awards the No Dig Award for the innovative use of No Dig technology. This year, DHI Sweden was part of the winning project.

Simon Åkerlund (NCC), standing next to Åsa Snith (SSTT Sweden), happily receives this years No Dig Award and the accompanying congratulations.
In fierce competition with eleven contestants, the most innovative use of No Dig Technology was awarded to a project presented by Telge Nät AB. The project was carried out by DHI Sweden AB as consultant and NCC as entrepreneur.

In an urban residential area, several properties had been affected by repeated flooding. The solution to this problem was to supplement the sewer system with a 450 meter long pipe, providing sufficient storage volume, with an overflow weir. The pipe was installed in five meters depth with horizontal directional drilling. The construction method used for the connection to the existing sewer pipes was pipe driving. Thereby, the project team was able to supply the neighbourhood with sufficient sewer volume without a major intrusion to the surroundings – viz.digging over the whole area.

The project was conducted by Lars Lönnkvist Telge Networks AB, Lennart Andersson and Fredrik Bergh DHI Sweden AB and Simon Åkerlund NCC.

The award ceremony took place at the SSTT’s annual meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark, on June 8th and 9th. The meeting gathered 200 participants from Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
