Integrated Solutions for Urban Water, Coastal and Marine Projects
On the 21st of January 2010 DHI Middle East hosted a one-day conference focusing on “Integrated Solutions on Urban, Coastal and Marine projects” with case studies from Dubai, United Arab Emirates and worldwide. Key speakers from DHI presented a spectrum of solutions for sustainable, viable and efficient use of the water environment. The conference was attended by more than 50 professionals and representatives from regulatory authorities, government agencies, engineering firms, environmental consultants and Universities.
After an opening of the conference by Dr. Muawieh Radaideh, Managing Director of DHI Middle East, and a presentation on Decision Support System by Mr. Jesper Kjelds (DHI), the conference was divided in two parallel sessions – “Urban Water “and “Coastal and Marine Technology”. This arrangement gave the participants an opportunity to attend presentations, specific to their own interests. The format of the sessions allowed for interaction and dialogue between attendees and presenters, resulting in interesting and live discussions during the sessions and breaks.
The Urban Water session included presentations by Mr. Sten Lindberg and Mr. Peter Andreasen from DHI and Mr. Jan Olsen from Waterstillar on collection and water treatment and on efficient water transmission systems. At the Costal and Marine session, Dr. Ida Broker and Mr. Peter Sloth from DHI presented case studies focusing on design basis for the projects in the coastal zone, including waves, waterfront developments and harbors.
Mr. Ole Petersen (DHI) gave an overview of MIKE by DHI software, as the tool for integrated water solutions, highlighting the new features in the 2009-2010 releases.
The attendees gave very positive feedback on the conference and expressed a wish to repeat the conference at least every two years.

"The DHI one day conference gave us new insight to design and planning and optimization of costs based on real experience. I believe participants interacted highly and the exchange of information was so good. For the Tanqia team, it was collectively agreed that DHI was successful within a one day conference to give comprehensive information on DHI’s outstanding engineering and designs capabilities, and a new perspective of inter-phase between R&D, O&M (i.e. for existing Wastewater Treatment Plant) and how it could it be applied more effectively.” Mr. Majed Salameh, Chief Technical Officer, Tanqia FZC company |
“The conference was great in content and in terms of networking. Speakers were excellent, combining theory and examples from the field and extracting the valid points from the different projects around the world. It helped very much to broaden the participant knowledge about DHI software. In addition to all these participants with broad experience helped to enrich the discussions in a very positive way. It was a highly enjoyable day and should be repeated annually.”
