CAVIAR

CAVIAR - a Deepwater Riser Design Product to Your Taste

MCS International (MCS) and DHI Water & Environment (DHI) are pleased to announce the launching of a proposal to initiate a Joint Industry Project to develop a Coupled Approach to the Vortex Induced Vibration Analysis of Risers, designated CAVIAR.

The objective of this JIP is to develop a practical tool for the design and analysis of top-tensioned and catenary risers that are susceptible to vortex induced vibrations, particularly in ultra-deepwater locations. This will be achieved through the application of coupled computational fluid and structural dynamics software.

The CAVIAR JIP will, through the coupling of the leading edge software and expertise of MCS and DHI, provide a new generation of VIV analysis and predictive capability to participants. Specifically, MCS will provide its widely used Flexcom-3D riser analysis package and DHI will provide its unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes solver, NS3riser.

The deliverables to each project participant will include a license for the CAVIAR software. This product will be professionally developed, documented and supported to the standard of excellence synonymous with software produced by MCS and DHI. The CAVIAR deliverable software will be validated using available experimental data.

A schedule of thirty months is planned for the JIP, with a start date in the first quarter of 2002.
