  IDA honours Ida

Former member of parliament Ms Christine Antorini, presented the "Agnes and Betzy Award" for the year 2000 to the Head of the Coastal Engineering Department at DHI - Water and Environment, civil engineer, Ph.D. Ida Brøker, on 15 June. The ceremony took place at the Society of Danish Engineers' (IDA) domicile in Copenhagen.

The award, named after the first two women - Agnes Nielsen and Betzy Meyer - to graduate from the Technical University of Denmark in 1897, is to honour an engineer who has been prominent in at least one of the following areas: giving women engineers a high profile, promoting equality in engineering or who has achieved something worthy of note in or for engineering.

"Ida Brøker is being awarded the prize, amongst other things, for having created a very visible role model for others, especially women, through her national and international lectures, extensive lectures at the Technical University of Denmark and as a result of her position as head of DHI's Coastal Engineering Department. That she is also very respected and admired among colleagues and professional associates for her professional, personal and leadership talents, has only made her nomination for the award even more obvious" said the chairman for IDA's women's committee, Mia Bacher Olsen, in her speech.
